…and everything we’ve shared together. a year, says the ticket stubs in my wallet. says her clothes in my drawers, says the art on my wall, says the photos in my phone, says the poetry, says my body, the way my heart beats.

I love ticket stubs as a souvenir, but I need a better place than my wallet to keep them.

especially since if you get pickpocketed, you lose memories.

…I try to keep the most recent ticket memories in my wallet, but attempt to clean out my wallet of nearly everything once every 2-3 months for both pickpocketing concerns and space allocation concerns. I like the tickets from the shows that I retained a ticket for, but my favorite is from a show that I didn’t even go to:

A girl that I date back in 2002 went to Ryan Adams (not to ever be mistaken for Bryan Adams) concert about 2 weeks into our relationship (which ended up burning out spectacularly amidst my anguish over a dead friend and her need that I could do nothing about so early into the relationship [with the death occurring only one week in to make it a doomed affair]). She waited in the alley nearby, and ended up grabbing her [fairly disinterested] friend’s ticket when having Adams sign hers. As he was signing hers, she was being invited to come drink with him at a bar that he had plans on. She turned him DOWN, clearing up that the friend that the other signed ticket would be going to was her bloke, a.k.a. Yours Truly. So, sitting in my archives, I have a Ticketmaster ticket with black permanent marker scrawlings reading,

“KARTHIK, YOU BASTARD. XOXO, RYAN ADAMS.”

I’ve had my problems with the man’s music, even when he was managing to get around various label restrictions to make the music that he wanted, but I never thought that he was outright terrible, and wish nothing but good things for him.

HOWEVER, I take satisfaction to this day in the idea that I blocked Ryan Adams, and have physical proof of it.
